Overview
We are defining the mechanisms that regulate cell death in cancers and neurodegenerative diseases. We identified a new form of regulated cell death, ferroptosis, and the pathways that regulate its execution. We have found numerous degenerative diseases that involve activation of ferroptosis, and a number of cancers that are sensitized to ferroptosis. We are defining further the integration of ferroptosis with metabolism, and discovering small molecules that regulate ferroptosis, along with suitable biomarkers, that can serve as precision medicines for diseases involving ferroptosis.
