Scientist 3, Immunology/B cell Biology

THE POSITION

The Yewdell Lab in the Department of Immunology at Genentech is seeking two highly creative and collaborative Scientists to join a dynamic research team investigating the role of B cells and antibodies in inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The successful candidate will implement cutting edge technologies and methods in cellular immunology, molecular biology, genomics and genetically engineered mouse models to advance exciting research stage programs into early clinical development, as well as explore new areas of B cell biology ripe for target discovery. Excellent communication skills are essential to facilitate fruitful collaborations with colleagues across a diverse array of departments, including bioinformatics, cellular and tissue genomics, human pathobiology & reverse translation, early clinical development, and biomarker discovery.

Projects may include, but are not limited to:

  • Understanding the unique biology of long-lived plasma cells
  • Studying the function of tertiary lymphoid structures in inflammatory and autoimmune diseases (e.g. inflammatory bowel disease)
  • Developing and/or applying novel technologies to study the genesis and development of autoreactive antibodies across various immunological diseases (e.g. inflammatory bowel disease, lupus, multiple sclerosis)

WHO YOU ARE

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a PhD in a field related to cellular immunology. However, outstanding candidates with diverse training (e.g. cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, developmental biology, genetics) will be considered
  • Have a demonstrated track record of experimental and intellectual prowess as evidenced by first or senior author publications in top-tier, peer-reviewed journals (Preprints also considered)
  • Be well versed theoretically and practically in cellular and molecular immunology techniques including primary cell isolation from tissues, in vitro stimulation of hematopoietic /immune cells, advanced flow cytometry, molecular biology, ELISA, qRT-PCR/RNAseq/scRNA-Seq
  • Be able to independently drive a project by designing and executing experiments, interpreting data, and making figures
  • Have exceptional critical thinking skills and an appreciation for rigorous, creative negative controls
  • Be excited to work in a highly collaborative, dynamic research group with a dedication to following the data wherever it may lead
